Get Clear, Grounded Guidance for the Situation You Can’t Stop Thinking About

Mixed Signals Are a Signal: 7 Things to Stop Explaining Away When You’re Dating

One of the things I hear most often in psychic readings about relationships is some version of this: “I just don’t understand what they’re doing.” One day they seem interested. The next day they pull away. They say they care, but they do not make much effort. They talk about a future, but nothing really moves forward. They disappear and then come back just when you were starting to let go. And before long, the person sitting across from me is no longer simply dating someone.

They are analyzing them.

Why did they say that?

Why haven’t they texted?

Are they scared?

Are they emotionally unavailable?

Did something happen?

Do they have feelings for me but just not know how to show them? Sometimes there really is more happening beneath the surface. But after more than twenty years of doing psychic readings, I have also learned something that I think matters just as much, sometimes we spend so much time trying to understand why someone is behaving a certain way that we stop asking whether we actually want to be treated that way.

That distinction can change everything.

❤️ Someone Can Have Feelings for You and Still Not Be Able to Give You a Relationship

This is probably one of the hardest things to accept. People tend to think there are only two possibilities. Either this person loves me and we are going to be together. Or they do not care about me at all. Real life is usually much more complicated than that. Someone can genuinely care about you and still be emotionally unavailable. Someone can think about you and still not prioritize you. Someone can miss you and still not be ready for a relationship. Someone can feel an intense connection with you and still be incapable of building something healthy. This is why I think asking only, “Do they have feelings for me?” can sometimes keep people stuck.

A more useful question might be:

What are they actually capable of giving me right now?

Because feelings matter, but feelings alone do not create a healthy relationship.

🔍 If You Are Constantly Decoding the Relationship, Pay Attention to That

Dating involves uncertainty. You are getting to know another person. You do not know exactly how they feel yet. You do not know whether the relationship will last. You are both figuring things out. That is normal. But there is a difference between normal uncertainty and chronic confusion. If months have passed and you are still regularly wondering where you stand, whether this person wants you, why their behaviour keeps changing, or whether they are ever going to make a decision, the confusion itself deserves your attention. It does not automatically mean the relationship has no future. But it may mean the relationship, as it exists right now, is not giving you the clarity or consistency you need. Sometimes people become so focused on solving the mystery that they forget they are allowed to decide they do not want to live inside the mystery.

🌱 Stop Dating Someone’s Potential

This comes up constantly. You can see who this person could become. Maybe they would be a wonderful partner if they healed from their previous relationship. Maybe things would be different if work became less stressful. Maybe once they dealt with their commitment issues, everything between you would finally fall into place. Maybe they just need more time. And sometimes people really do grow. But the problem begins when you start having a relationship with the future version of someone instead of the person who exists today. Potential can be exciting because you are imagining the best possible outcome. But you still have to ask, if nothing changed, would I want this relationship exactly as it is now?

That answer may tell you more than all the possibilities you can imagine.

⚡ Chemistry Does Not Always Mean Compatibility

Strong chemistry can feel incredibly significant. Sometimes people describe meeting someone and immediately feeling as though they have known them forever. There is an intensity, a pull, a feeling like you’ve known them before, and an intensity. From a spiritual perspective, you may believe there is a deeper connection there, and there might be. But this is where I think people sometimes make an important mistake. A meaningful connection is not automatically a healthy relationship. You can have incredible chemistry with someone who is inconsistent. You can feel spiritually connected to someone who cannot communicate. You can feel drawn to someone who brings out enormous anxiety in you. You can have a relationship that teaches you something important without that relationship being meant to last forever. I think we sometimes treat intensity as proof. It is not. It is information. You still need to look at everything else.

🧠 Be Careful About Explaining Away Behaviour You Would Normally Question

When we care about someone, we become very good at creating explanations for them. We might say they’re just busy, or they have been hurt before, maybe they are afraid of intimacy, or they have an avoidant personality style and this could be true.  Understanding someone can be compassionate and useful. But understanding why someone behaves a certain way does not mean you have to accept the impact that behaviour is having on you. Someone’s history may explain why they struggle to communicate. That does not mean you have to spend years waiting for communication. Their past may explain why they are afraid of commitment. That does not mean you have to put your own life on hold until they become ready. You can understand someone deeply and still decide that what they are offering is not enough for you.

🔮 Intuition Should Not Require You to Ignore Reality

This is where dating and intuition can become particularly complicated. Someone may say, “I just know we are supposed to be together.” or “I feel something so strongly with this person.” Maybe there is something meaningful in what you are sensing. But I would still encourage you to look at what is happening in front of you. What are their actions showing you? How do you feel in the relationship? Are they communicating? Are they consistent? Are you both actually building something? Intuition should help you understand reality more clearly. It should not require you to constantly explain reality away. If your intuition tells you there is a powerful connection but the relationship is repeatedly painful, confusing, inconsistent or one-sided, both things may be true. There may be a connection, but it may still not be the relationship you should choose.

💭 Stop Asking Only, “Do They Choose Me?”

This is one of the biggest things I wish people would change about dating. So much emotional energy goes into figuring out whether someone else wants us.

Will they call?

Will they commit?

Will they come back?

Will they choose me?

And without realizing it, we hand the other person all of the power. But dating is not supposed to be one person deciding whether the other person is worthy. You are deciding too.

So instead of only asking:

“Do they like me?”

Ask:

Do I like the way I feel around them?

Instead of:

“Will they commit?”

Ask:

Is this the kind of relationship I want to commit to?

Instead of:

“Will they choose me?”

Ask:

Would I choose this?

Sometimes that shift brings much more clarity.

🌿 You Do Not Need a Diagnosis Before You Walk Away

I think we sometimes feel that we need a very dramatic explanation before we are allowed to leave a relationship. They have to be a narcissist, or a cheater, or they need to be a terrible person or do something terrible to justify walking away. But sometimes the answer is much more simple. If you are unhappy, or feel anxious all or most of the time, don’t trust the person or relationship, and are constantly confused this could be a sign your needs aren’t being met. No matter how much you keep hoping the relationship will become something it has not yet become, and that can be enough for you to walk away. You do not have to prove that someone is a bad person in order to decide that they are not the right person for you.

✨ The Goal of Dating Is Not to Make Every Connection Work

I think this is worth remembering because dating is not a test where success means turning every person you like into a relationship or the forever person or “the one”. Sometimes dating works exactly as it is supposed to work when you realize early that something is not right for you. Sometimes the win is recognizing incompatibility sooner. Sometimes it is noticing that you are repeating an old pattern. Sometimes it is choosing not to chase someone who cannot meet you where you are, and sometimes it is learning to trust what you are already seeing instead of waiting for someone else to tell you what it means. You can care about someone, understand them, feel connected, even love them so deeply yet still decide that this relationship is not what you want for your life.

🔮 Looking for Clarity About a Relationship?

If you are feeling confused about a relationship, trying to understand someone’s behaviour, or unsure whether you are listening to your intuition or your fears, a psychic reading can sometimes help you step outside the emotion and look at the situation from a different perspective. The goal is not to have a psychic reading dictate or make your relationship decisions for you. It is to help you understand what may be happening, what you may not be seeing clearly, and what choices are still yours to make.
